Magic Hat is bullying small breweries again. Stop the nonsense!
Well, it appears Magic Hat is up to their old tricks again. This time, their lawyers have set their sights on the small Lexington, Kentucky brewery, West Sixth Brewing. Their goal? They are asking for ALL the PROFITS of West Sixth up to this point in an effort to repair what they are calling “irrepairable harm” to their brand, by claiming that West Sixth’s logo infringes upon their trademark for their #9 Pale Ale. They claim the logo is infringing upon the logo of one of their beers in their lineup because a 6 is just an inverted 9. Nevermind that their Federal Trademark is only for the text ‘#’ and ‘9’, neither of which are contained within the West Sixth logo.

Many of you out there in the beer world are probably already familiar with this other documented case of Magic Hat going after another small brewery for similar, petty reasons.

Some will say that this is just business as usual in corporate America, and that this is just a sign of the litigious times we live in. I say this is out of step with the values of the craft beer community, which should be supporting other small brewers and inspiring collaboration, creativity and quality above all else. If you agree that this is nonsense, please take a moment to sign this petition urging Magic Hat to drop their lawsuit against West Sixth, and take a stand against corporate bullying.

Ol’ Dirty Bastard hijacks the stage at the 1998 Grammy Music Awards. His crew’s massive opus Wu-Tang Forever was nominated for Best Rap Album but lost to Diddy’s No Way Out early in the evening. But ODB finally got a word in later in the evening while Shawn Colvin was accepting the award for Song of the Year.

“It’s nice that I went and bought me an outfit today that costed a lot of money, you know what I mean? ‘Cause I figured that Wu-Tang was gonna win,” ODB said. “I don’t know how you all see it, but when it comes to the children, Wu-Tang is for the children. We teach the children. You know what I mean? Puffy is good, but Wu-Tang is the best, Okay? I want you all to know that this is ODB, and I love you all. Peace!”
